Apple TV+ revealed Wednesday that Land of Women, a comedy/drama starring Eva Longoria, will make its global debut in June.

The series is inspired by a bestselling novel.

Land of Women also stars Carmen Maura

A dramedy combines comedy and drama. While opposites, the two genres mix surprisingly well — if done right. A prime example is 2022 Academy Award-winning film Everything Everywhere All at Once, while the classic TV show M.A.S.H. pioneered the mashup genre. And Land of Women is an upcoming example.

The Apple TV+ description of its series says:

Land of Women stars Longoria as Gala, a New York empty nester whose life is turned upside down when her husband implicates the family in financial improprieties, and she is forced to flee the city alongside her aging mother (Carmen Maura) and teenage daughter (Victoria Bazúa). To escape the dangerous criminals to whom Gala’s now vanished husband is indebted, the three women hide in the same charming wine town in northern Spain that Gala’s mother fled 50 years ago, vowing never to return. The women seek to start anew and hope their identities will remain unknown, but gossip in the small town quickly spreads, unraveling their deepest family secrets and truths.

Eva Longoria is best known for her many years on the TV series Desperate Housewives, plus she’s in the 2024 season of Only Murders in the Building. Carmen Maura is a legendary star of Spanish film and television shows, while Victoria Bazúa, the third lead in the newly announced show, is a newcomer.

It’s inspired by award-winning author Sandra Barneda’s bestselling novel La tierra de las mujeres, and was created by Ramón Campos, Gema R. Neira and Paula Fernández. The series is directed by Iris Award winner Carlos Sedes.

On Apple TV+ this summer

Land of Women will make its global debut with two episodes on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. There are six episodes in total, and new ones are scheduled to follow every Wednesday through July 24.
